Craft Workshop and Portage Lakes Historical Society 35th Anniversary Celebration

We are going to get together again to finish up our projects Monday, October 7th at 7 pm at the Schweikert's house. This work party will be held in place of our monthly Board meeting. Everyone is welcome - please bring small paint brushes, scissors, and a hair dryer if you have one. Snacks and beverages provided.

The Festival of Crafts Show is October 19th from 9 to 3 pm. We will need volunteers on Oct. 19th from 8 am to 3:30 pm. The Green Band Boosters Craft Show is November 2nd from 9 am to 4 pm. We will need volunteers on Nov. 2nd from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Please let me know if you are able and willing to volunteer.

The Portage Lakes Historical Society will meet for their 35th anniversary celebration at Craftsmen Park dining hall, 4450 Rex Lake Road on Thursday, Oct. 10, 7 p.m. Artifacts and numerous photo boards documenting the history of the Portage Lakes will be displayed.

The display will include: Historical Boat Tour Map, history and cast aluminum site sign; Portage Lakes Kiwanis Water Festival history; George Beckham’s Portage Lakes postcard collection; collection of items from Portage Lakes library, Railroad and ice house photo of Cottage Grove Lake; Goodyear Boat and Yacht Club photos, photos of Hohman’s Landing and Map brochure; Hydroplane racing boats photos & history, photos from Burch’s/Kieffer’s; Iron Channel before and after construction photos; Crooks Hotel items, history and photos ; Hackett’s Edgewater Inn photos & history; Pake’s Pharmacy soda fountain glasses & article; framed Portage Lakes pennant; Turkeyfoot Island artifacts; Anchor Boat Livery photos; Pick’s Boat house paper placemat; ice boat photo on North Reservoir, Aerial view 1972 Dusty’s Landing, Old State Mill postcard photos and decorative pin tray, Turkeyfoot Golf Course photos (Miller Lake area), Young’s Hotel and much more.

Don’t miss this outstanding display of Portage Lakes History. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, 7 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served. Also available for purchase will be Portage Lakes Historical Society postcards, note cards and Portage Lakes Kiwanis portagelakesopoly game.
