The video is about the community members' Memories of Green - what they remember most, what they enjoyed, etc. One visit to the Akron Public Library to visit the Kepler-Coss Collection was all it took! The girls were hooked! They loved all the stories - good and bad about Green. Their view of Green as young ladies is so much different then our views as adults. The Green Historical Society welcomes Bob Dupree, President of the Massillon O Gauge Model Railroad Club and Member of the Jackson Historical Society, to discuss the local railroad history in Jackson and Green Townships. Come out and learn about the role of our railroads in our local history.
Monday, April 15th at 7 pm at Council’s Chambers at CAB, 1755 Town Park Blvd. GHS will hold an inaugural Community Photo Day on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 9 am to 2 pm at Council Chambers in the City of Green Central Administration Building. Anyone with photos of people, places, or things related to Green are encouraged to
participate. Your photos will be electronically copied on site. Your original photos and a CD with electronic copies of your photos will be returned to you during the event. GHS will ask participants to agree to allow GHS to add the copied photos to their archive. Limit 30 photos per participant please. Appointments are encouraged, but not required. Call 330-776-8652 or email info@greenhistoricalsociety.com to make an appointment. At the January 21, 2013 open meeting the GHS Board unveiled the proposed 2013 Calendar of Events. The next event will be a workshop on February 18, 2013, to prepare marketing materials for our 2013 events and to make more photo crafts and coasters in preparation for the Green Expo on March 2nd. Please come out in work clothes and bring your rulers, scissors, small brushes, and ModPodge. We will start at 6 pm at the Torok Center. Pizza will be served. ![]()
The Green Historical Society will have a booth at the Green Band Boosters
craft show on Saturday, November 3rd from 9-4 pm. The show is held at Green High School. There is a $2 cover charge for entry, parking is free and handicap parking is available. This is an incredibly large and popular show so come early to get a parking space. GHS will be selling the Our Heritage, Our Home books, our Cat's Meow keepsakes, and stone tile coasters, tile magnets, postcards, and pocket calendars all containing historic photos of Green and all crafted by our members. Please join us on Monday, June 18th at 6 pm at 4890 Thursby Road. We will retrace the tour developed by Bev Kepler-Coss including 52 noteworthy citizens buried in Greensburg Cemetery. Lemonade and cookies will be provided. Attendees will receive a print copy of the noteworthy persons tour guide and a copy of the Deaths Book compiled by the Garmon Family between 1848 to 1986. Come out to Dues & Desserts and meet our Inaugural scholarship recipient, Shannon Bales. Shannon is a Senior at Green High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Mischelle Bales. Shannon will officially receive her award at the Dues & Dessert event at MAPS on April 23, 2012.
